Multan Sultans vs Peshawar Zalmi Qualifier Report: Usama Mir And Yasir Khan Take Multan To 4th Consecutive PSL Final

MUL vs PES Match Highlights And Report-PSL: Mohammad Rizwan’s Multan Sultans entered their fourth consecutive PSL final after they defeated Babar Azam’s Peshawar Zalmi by 7 wickets in the Qualifier of the PSL 2024 on Thursday in Karachi.

Multan controlled and dominated the match right from the outset and put on a clinical show with both bat and ball to seal a berth in the final. Peshawar still has another opportunity to reach the final when they meet the winner of Eliminator 1, which will be played between Islamabad United and Quetta Gladiators in Eliminator 2.

The Multan Sultans were the table-toppers in the league stage, and they played like the best team of the tournament. They first restricted Zalmi to an under-par total of 146 before gunning it down in 18.3 overs while losing only three wickets.

Multan Sultans vs Peshawar Zalmi Qualifier PSL Report

Peshawar Zalmi won the toss and elected to bat first, but got off to a slow start on a good surface. Zalmi lost attacking opener Saim Ayub in the first over to David Willey. Then, while Babar and Haris put on a 47-run partnership, they took 31 balls to do so, with Babar scoring 22 (17). Later, in his 44 (35) partnership with Tom Kohler-Cadmore, Babar scored 18 (17).

Babar’s knock of 46 (42), ended by a Chris Jordan yorker, meant that his batting partners got under more pressure and lost their wickets. Only two Zalmi batters—Haris, who scored 22 (14) and tailender Luke Wood, who smashed 14 runs in 7 balls—batted at a strike rate of more than 150.

Sultans leg-spinner, Usama Mir, choked Zalmi in the middle overs, returning with figures of 2/16 in 4 overs.

Zalmi’s score of 146 was never going to challenge the Sultans, and it became clearer once opener Yasir Khan started to rattle his strokes, starting with a six on the second ball of the chase. Yasir cracked seven fours and a six in his innings of 54 runs on 37 balls, which put Multan on track for a successful chase.

A 61-run opening stand in 7.4 overs effectively sealed the game for Multan. Number 3 batsman Usman Khan scored 36* off 28 balls as Sultan got over the line comfortably.
